Retail opportunities

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Many high street retailers are looking to self storage as a means of expanding their businesses. Most high street vendors are paying high rent for, typically, a small unit which they fit out the front for the custoomers area and the back as there storage area. It is not unusual for the storage areas to be 3 or 4 times the size of the area used to sell.

Many retailers are now looking to turn that on it’s head. Excess stock is being keep at a remote location – a self storage facility – and more of the high street area is being fitted out to do what is most important, to sell to the customer. The high street retailer is therefore looking for a self storage facility that is close by and offers sufficient access to ensure he never runs out of stock. A weekly check on stock levels in the shop and then a visit to the storage unit ensures that he always has enough in the shop to sell to his customers.

An added advantage is when the storage facility is prepared to take deliveries for their customers. This means that a shop owner can stay in his shop selling while deliveries are made on his behalf to his storage unit.

The Dublin Wheel

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

The Dublin Wheel has opened recently in the point village beside the O2 arena. It is the main attraction in the new point village market and having done about 5 or 6 loops on the wheel myself I can say it was worth every cent of the €9.00 fee. Of course it helped that the weather was fantastic the day I went up and you could see for miles. Working in the area meant I recognised a lot of the landmarks from both the IFSC side and the port and personally I thought it was fantastic but I dont think that is a requirement. The views are brilliant and if the day is clear it is quite spectacular .

I got the idea to go up the wheel after we were contacted by World Tourist Attractions (the company that operate the wheel). In the run up to opening day they had a container which they needed to get off-site but they needed to store it reasonably close by. Being only 500 metres from the Wheel we were happy to oblige and offer our services.

The best thing about the wheel – from up there you get a great view of Remedy Self Storage – www.remedy.ie
